It is 8:30 in the evening in Muscat. Someone is hungry, undecided and holding a phone. In the next 90 seconds they will open Google Maps, Instagram or a delivery app, look at a few photos, glance at the rating and decide where to eat. Your food might be the best in the city, but if you do not show up well in those 90 seconds, you lose that customer to the place with better photos.
Restaurant marketing in Muscat is about winning those small moments again and again. Here is how.
1. Google Maps is your new signboard
"Restaurants near me", "best biryani Muscat", "breakfast Qurum", "cafe open late Al Khoud". These searches show a map with three restaurants at the top. Being in those three is worth more than most adverts.
- Claim and verify your Google Business Profile.
- Choose the most accurate primary category (for example "Lebanese restaurant", not just "Restaurant").
- Add your full menu, prices, opening hours (including Ramadan hours), phone and WhatsApp.
- Upload real photos every week: dishes, interior, outdoor seating, the team.
- Reply to every review.
Our Google Business Profile guide for Oman walks through each step.
2. Photos sell food, so make them irresistible
You do not need a professional shoot every week, but you do need good habits:
- Shoot near a window in daylight, never under yellow lights with flash.
- Show texture and steam: the cheese pull, the sizzle, the pour of karak.
- Keep backgrounds clean. A messy table ruins a great plate.
- Film short vertical clips while dishes are being prepared. These become Reels and Stories.
3. Instagram and TikTok: show the experience
People do not only buy food, they buy an experience they can share. Content ideas that work in Oman:
- "Rate our new menu item" Stories with polls.
- Behind the scenes: the chef's 6am prep, bread from the oven.
- Staff and regulars (with permission) to add warmth.
- Seasonal specials for Ramadan, Eid, National Day and Khareef.
- User content: repost customers who tag you.
Post consistently, and put your location, hours and a WhatsApp or booking link in your bio.
4. Delivery apps: treat them like a second restaurant
Delivery platforms are busy marketplaces. To stand out:
- Use the same high-quality photos as your social media.
- Write short, appetising descriptions with portion sizes.
- Create a few delivery-friendly combos and family meals.
- Package food so it arrives looking good, with a small card inviting customers to follow you or order direct.
- Watch ratings closely and fix recurring complaints such as cold fries or missing sauces.
5. Reviews build trust faster than adverts
A restaurant with many recent positive reviews feels safe to try. Ask for reviews politely: a small table card with a QR code, a note on the receipt, a friendly word from the server. Never offer discounts in exchange for reviews, as that breaks Google's rules. Reply to critical reviews calmly, apologise where needed and invite the guest back.
6. Paid ads: small budget, tight targeting
Restaurants rarely need big ad budgets. A few rials a day on Instagram, targeted to people within a few kilometres at lunch and dinner time, can work well. Promote your best-performing organic post rather than a random new one. For catering, events or corporate lunches, Google Search ads targeting phrases like "catering Muscat" can bring high-value orders.
7. Bring customers back
New customers are expensive; regulars are gold. Simple ways to bring people back:
- A WhatsApp broadcast list for people who opt in, with the weekly special.
- A simple loyalty card or stamp system.
- Birthday offers for customers who share their date.
- Remembering names and favourite orders. It still matters most.
8. Plan around the Omani calendar
Ramadan iftar and suhoor menus, Eid family gatherings, National Day celebrations, back-to-school and the Khareef season in Salalah all change how people eat. Plan menus and content two to three weeks ahead. Our Ramadan marketing guide has more ideas.
