Every November, Oman turns red, white and green. Flags appear on cars and balconies, buildings light up, families head out to see the celebrations and social feeds fill with pride for the country. For brands, Oman National Day marketing is a chance to connect with customers on something they genuinely care about. Done well, it builds real affection. Done badly, it looks like a discount sticker on a flag.
This guide helps you plan a campaign that feels sincere and still brings results.
Know the dates
Oman's National Day is now marked on 20 November, the anniversary of the founding of the Al Busaidi state. The official public holiday is announced each year and can be moved. For 2026, the National Day holiday has been announced for Wednesday 25 and Thursday 26 November, which, together with the weekend, gives many people a four-day break. Long weekends change behaviour: more travel, more family outings, more shopping and more time on phones.
Start with respect, not discounts
National Day is about pride, gratitude and unity. Before thinking about offers, ask what your brand can genuinely say or do. A few principles:
- Use the flag and national symbols respectfully: correct colours, no distortion, never placed on the floor or used carelessly.
- Avoid using images of His Majesty the Sultan in commercial adverts unless you are sure it is appropriate and permitted.
- Keep humour gentle and inclusive. National pride is not the place for edgy jokes.
- Celebrate Oman's people, places and heritage rather than only your product.
Campaign ideas that work
1. Celebrate local heroes
Feature employees, customers or suppliers and their stories: the Omani engineer who joined your team, the family business that has supplied you for twenty years. Real people make the strongest content.
2. Show Oman's beauty
From the mountains of Jebel Shams to the beaches of Ras Al Hadd and the souqs of Mutrah, Oman is incredibly photogenic. Tourism, hospitality, automotive and lifestyle brands can create road-trip guides, photo series or short videos.
3. Heritage meets modern
Combine traditional elements, such as Omani patterns, frankincense, khanjar motifs, halwa or dates, with your modern product. Limited-edition packaging or a special menu item can create buzz without heavy discounting.
4. Give something back
Plant trees, support a local charity, organise a beach clean-up or sponsor a community event. Share it modestly and invite customers to join.
5. Interactive social content
Quizzes about Omani history and geography, "Where in Oman is this?" photo challenges, or user-generated content with a campaign hashtag encourage participation and sharing.
6. Meaningful offers
If you do run promotions, tie them sensibly to the occasion and keep them clear. Make sure prices and terms are honest and comply with consumer protection rules.
Build the timeline now
- Four weeks before: agree the idea, messages and budget. Book photographers, creators and printing.
- Three weeks before: produce content in Arabic and English. Prepare a short landing page if you have an offer.
- Two weeks before: start teasers on social media. Update your Google Business Profile with holiday hours.
- Celebration week: publish your main content, run ads, reply to every comment and message quickly.
- After: thank your customers, share highlights and measure results.
Language and tone
National Day content should feel natural in Arabic first. Write original Arabic copy rather than translating English slogans word for word, and have a native speaker check it. Our guide on Arabic vs English content in Oman explains how to balance both.
Advertising during the holiday
Competition for attention rises during National Day, so ad costs on social media can increase. Start early, focus on your most engaged audiences, and use short vertical video. If people travel during the long weekend, target by interest rather than only by city. For local businesses, make sure your Google Business Profile shows correct holiday opening hours, as many people search "open now" during holidays.
Measure beyond likes
Track reach and engagement, but also enquiries, store visits, sales and new followers compared with a normal week. Save your best-performing content and ideas for next year's plan.
